Plans for a 350,000-square-foot indoor athletic facility are moving forward for a 40- to 50-acre piece of land near Juday Creek Golf Course.

Mishawaka officials believe it could drive business to area hotels, stores and restaurants for years to come.

The estimated $50 million project would include eight courts that would be used for volleyball and basketball and two turf fields that could be used for indoor soccer, baseball and other activities.

Plans are moving forward for a new indoor athletic complex in Mishawaka.

What still has to be determined is whether it would make sense to add two indoor ice rinks to the facility, Prince told the St. Joseph County Hotel-Motel Tax Board at a meeting on Friday.

Card & Associates, an Indianapolis-area firm that has developed and operates other such facilities in the state, is performing the study.

At this point, no contracts have been signed, said Prince.

From the article:

“Mishawaka officials believe it could drive business to area hotels, stores and restaurants for years to come.

The estimated $50 million project”

So, how many rooms, meals, and doodads will have to be sold for the local government to recoup their share of the investment?

Also, I thought Prince died recently but here he is in Mishawaka talking to the Motel-Hotel Tax Board on Friday. I guess that music career just didn’t pay the bills anymore…
