Crews were called to the scene around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The building is located on Howard Street between Ninth and Tenth Streets.

According to officials, the fire is now contained, but crews are monitoring hot spots.

ABC-57 reports the building has been abandoned for nearly two decades.

Officials say there are multiple empty buildings along this strip of road, with nearly half a dozen fires breaking out in them over the years.

Residents can expect smoke in the area for several hours, because fire crews are fighting the flames from the outside.

At this time there are no reports of any injuries.

According to officials, there will be an investigation into the cause of the fire, as it has been deemed suspicious.
