A Michiana developer plans to repurpose one of the last pieces of the former Madison Center Complex into a hotel fit for serving youth sports teams.
The 77,000-square-foot structure was at one time considered being used as housing for the homeless. However those plans fell through due to zoning issues.
Building owner and developer David Matthews came up with the idea of redeveloping the property on Niles avenue into a hotel focusing on youth sports.
The building features 80 rooms on the second and third floors, a full-size gymnasium, laundry facilities, and plenty of open spaces and rooms where teams or groups could meet, according to the South Bend Tribune.
St. Joseph County already has around 5,000 hotel rooms, with an additional 400 under construction.
If approved, the project would likely take 6-months to complete.
