Police in Elkhart responded to the intersection of County Road 15 and State Road 119 around 12:30 pm on Sunday for a call involving two cars and a buggy.

Authorities say a Dodge Grand Caravan, driven by a 44-year old from Nappanee, was traveling north on CR 15 when it attempted to pass a buggy.

That’s when the Dodge allegedly collided head-on with a Mercury Sable that was traveling southbound while allegedly speeding. Deputies say the Mercury and the buggy went off the road and overturned off the east side of CR 15.

The driver of the Dodge Grand Caravan and the two passengers, were transported to the hospital. According to ABC-57 News, the Dodge was also cited with Improper Passing and Child Restraint Violation.

The passenger of the Mercury Sable, a 16-year old juvenile from Wakarusa, was found unconscious at the scene and then transported via MedFlight to the hospital for head injuries. Deputies say he was also cited for Excessive Speed and a Seatbelt Violation.

In the buggy, three people were taken to the hospital for their injuries, the crash report said.
