(Dave Caulfield/ABC 57) The National Weather Service has confirmed not one, but two tornadoes, touched down in northern Indiana early Monday morning, June 21.

Just after 2 a.m., an EF-1 tornado with 100 mile-per-hour winds snapped trees and tore a roof off of a barn in St. Joseph County.

An EF-1 tornado caused damage in Steuben County as well.

Robert Cunningham was on his porch when he heard a loud crash down the street.

“It took a large tree down like a wildfire,” Cunningham said.

Slabs of sidewalk were no match for Mother Nature’s might.

“We’ve had storms before, but I haven’t seen anything like this,” Cunningham added.

It was all hands on deck at Kristine Hudkins house, as neighbors helped the Bremen resident clean up the chaos.

But the damage that meant the most to her laid at the base of a tree still standing. A collection of 75-year-old plates that she and her husband just put up as decoration last month were shattered.

Still, she’s thankful that no one was hurt.

“Plates, in the grand scheme of things, mean nothing. People do,” Hudkins said.

Just up 331 near Wyatt, we found some of the most serious damage. A barn barely still standing, shingles of roofs sent down the street with parts of trees littering the ground.

Many across Michiana have to pick up the pieces well after the last gusts of wind blew through.

The National Weather Service confirmed Monday that the damage on Gumwood Road was the result of an EF-1 tornado.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported with Monday morning’s storms.
