Part of Main St. in Elkhart closes for months-long project

Part of Main Street in Elkhart will closed until late August.

The southbound stretch between Lusher and Hively is shut down as part of the project to turn the four-lane road into a three-lane road with a center turn lane.

The Elkhart Truth reports that crews will also create a multiuse pathway, install new street lights and sidewalks, improve the storm sewer and water main, and more.

This is part of a $2.6 million project in two phases that is expected to be finished at the end of October. The suggested detour involves Lusher, Prairie and Hively.
