If you haven’t gotten the COVID vaccination yet, don’t count on a financial incentive to do it.
President Biden has suggested states use federal pandemic relief money to give people 100 dollars for getting the shot. Governor Holcomb says he’s happy to see the White House looking for ways to boost vaccinations and says he’ll review the idea, but he says it’s not fair to the people he says did the right thing and got the shot early.
I-U and Purdue have held prize drawings for students and faculty who get vaccinated, and neighboring Ohio held five million-dollar drawings among those who got vaccinated. Holcomb’s been skeptical of those efforts — he says for people who have doubts, money won’t change their mind.
Holcomb says the F-D-A could remove a significant roadblock by replacing the vaccines’ emergency approval with full approval. He says he’s talked to a lot of people who wrongly think the current emergency authorization means it’s still experimental.
Just one in a thousand Hoosiers have gotten sick after being fully vaccinated, and fewer than 200 have been hospitalized out of nearly three-million vaccinated. 98-percent of Indiana hospitalizations and 99-percent of deaths have been unvaccinated. Holcomb says with similar results nationally, the F-D-A shouldn’t delay in granting final authorization.
Holcomb says he’s giving the same message to anyone he talks to who’s having doubts: the vaccine works, not just as a protection against serious illness but as a protection against further economic disruptions.
“It is the answer to inadvertently shutting down a supply chain. It is the answer to making sure our kids can stay in school. It is the answer to staying out of the hospital. It is the answer to avoiding death,” Holcomb says.
Nearly half of eligible Hoosiers still haven’t gotten the vaccine. Indiana’s vaccination rate is the third-lowest in the Midwest, with only Missouri and North Dakota ranking lower. The number of Hoosiers in intensive care has doubled in the last two weeks, and is now the highest since February.

It’s not fair that people without vaccination get people sick, and now they can get people that got vaccinated sick. Please governor, we need to start looking out for people that can die from this virus. Protect the ones that are trying to stay alive. I know people that say no I’m not getting vaccinated because of this or that. At this point it’s just stupid why NOT to get vaccinated. Protect the people, protect our lives!
If the unvaxxed can get the vaxxed sick, then clearly the vaxx doesn’t work. Logic 101.
I’m sorry you’re blaming the un-vaccinated people for getting the vaccinated sick….seriously??? What about the vaccinated that are still carriers, can get un-vaccinated sick, & will probably need a booster! They are not cured! By the way, there are people that have died that were vaccinated. Do some research before judging the ones that choose to not get vaccinated with a clinical trial vaccine!!!
I can’t imagine ever blaming someone else for me getting sick. If I’m sick it’s my fault. Period. Take responsibility for your own actions people!!
Why is all the blame being placed on the unvaccinated? Believe it or not more than 45k people have died FROM the vaccine. Do your research before opening your mouth. If you want to be a sheep, that’s on you. But don’t go pointing fingers on the ones that don’t want a “vaccine” that is for EUA. I will not be a lab rat!!
Absolutely false. No one is dying from the vaccine. Stop watching fox.
I agree that people shouldn’t get paid to convince them to get the shot. It’s everyone’s choice to get the shot or not. Everyone that hasn’t had the shot has their reasons and they have a right to make their own decisions. Bribery to pay them to get the shot is wrong. This is the first thing I have agreed with Holcomb on. I generally think he doesn’t know his butt from a hole in the ground. He only worries about himself and his rich buddies in government. However, for once I agree with him. Those who got the shot didn’t get paid for getting it so why should those who haven’t had the shot get paid for it?
For those who keep saying everyone should get the shot because you think they should, do you think you should have to do everything they think even if you don’t agree with it or even though you don’t hold the same opinions or beliefs?
To each their own. Stop judging everyone by your opinions and beliefs. If they don’t believe it’s safe they have a right to that choice. The vaccinated are still spreading it and some are still dying, including children, from getting the shot. You do you and let them do them.
You are so right Mary i totally agree
Laura your wrong on so many levels its sad. What about people that can’t get vaccinated should we force them to anyway? Protect your own life and mind your own business. Stop trying to force your own uninformed views on other people. So Holcomb should mandate the vaccine? Have you heard of the Constitution? What makes you think that by mandating it people who haven’t gotten it are going to get it they will only make the resistance to its stronger. Go to Chicago or New York if you worried about it everyone’s vaccinated there and wearing masks. Not going to happen here in Indiana
Good afternoon fellow Hoosier! Your opinion is one shared with many Americans and as Americans it is your right to have. I was curious as to what your views are on abortion? I wonder if you fall into the category of the people that support a woman’s right to choose to “protect their own life” and “mind your own business”? Or are you more the type to “force your own uniformed views” on women with unwanted pregnancies and think “we should force them to” give birth anyway?
Charles, I see your logic. Perhaps it doesn’t WORK to keep one from Spreading it, but the vaccine does work in the following ways as our governor correctly points out:
It protects against SERIOUS illness,
It prevents any further economic disruptions,
It prevents inadvertently losing an adequate supply chain,
It increases the chance to keep children in schools,
It helps people staying out of hospitals, (Indiana’s intensive care patients has doubled in the last two weeks)
It helps keeping people from dying.
For these reasons it seems to me that the vaccine works. Best wishes, Charles.
Mary,
I see you are concerned about who gets who sick from this nasty virus. Let’s hope we can eradicate the virus and not have to be worried about the spread. Yes?
I think a booster is being thought about for the one-shot Johnson vaccine since it may not be working as well for the highly infectious delta virus as it was for the original virus.
Yes a few people died after getting the vaccine, but from what, I don’t know. But consider that some people also died after eating breakfast, and some died after going to a movie etc.
H. I too question the mandating idea in this case.
Wishing you a great day.
If you want to know how much your government is lying to you then do yourself a favor educate yourself straight from the source. 1 800-879-3477 call this number and follow the prompts but listen to all information. I have MS – there has been no clinical tests conducted to this date on the long-term effect this would have on my immune system. – this is per Mayo clinic. My employer just mandated that either I get vaccinated or I will not be able to enter my building to do my job. The vaccinated are carriers and myself, my step-daughter, my son, my granddaughter and my sister-n-law ALL have had COVID and recovered. Do you trust natural – herd immunity or a manmade vax for a manmade pandemic? There is so much wrong with what Laura stated above. She is more liable to contaminate someone as she is 100% carrying COVID, where I’ve been tested for anti-bodies and have had a confirmed diagnosis and recovered completely. Yet, I’m the one being ranted against and discriminated against at my job of 15 years. So wrong, all of this!
Yes! 100% on your side. Having covid is the best immunity. T cells remember that virus!
It’s not about being fair it’s about saving lives….maybe yours or someone you know or children know….so what…. it’s not coming out of your pocket so to whine about what you didn’t get is childish….if it helps convince someone isn’t that MORE important…the reasoning for them deciding to doesn’t matter as long as they do. I say do it Holcomb
For those that dont know govenor Holcomb he is not anti-vax or pro-vax he is pro choice. All you people out there that want to shoot up poison, go for it no one is stopping you from making that choice. Some of us feel there is no need for this vaccine and we will not be baited or forced. If your parents knew in the end you would sell your life for 100 bucks or a dictators word maybe they should have been pro choice and aborted you to save theselves the cost of raising you to be a sheep or governement assistance baby. But in the end when it comes down to the second American Revolution make sure you guys do what your told and lockdown in your houses. You dont want to catch covid from the unvaxxed saving you from a communist regime. But nothing in the end will save you from your blindness and stupidity. You can willing give up your freedoms if you would like but we ask that you leave this country because us Americans love our God our freedom and our guns and I believe we will be keeping all 3 no problem. Come and take it or put that mask back on and shut the hell up.
