Elkhart voting district without voters getting a small name change ahead of map changes

Elkhart County is renaming a voter district in advance of new census data.

Officials renamed a voter district with no voters in it ahead of receiving the demographic data that will help shape new maps, according to The Elkhart Truth.

Voters may see some changes in their precincts after the districts are redrawn to reflect the census data. The change renames voting district “Baugo-A (NV)” and removes the designation at the end signifying no voters. The district, which has a water treatment plant but no voters, created the last time the precinct maps were redrawn.

The “NV” in parenthesis created problems with certain databases. The new boundaries won’t be established until after the November election this year.
