A motorcycle crash on the Indiana Toll Road claimed the life of a female passenger.

Just after 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14,  troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle on the Indiana Toll Road near the 74 mile marker.

The preliminary investigation shows that a grey 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by Terrence Foster, 45, of Columbus, Ohio, was travelling eastbound when the motorcycle suffered possible rear tire failure causing him to lose control of the motorcycle.

Foster and his passenger, Kaneisha Akins, 45 of Toledo, were thrown from the motorcycle, which came to rest in the center median.

Foster was transported to Memorial Hospital in South Bend with injuries believed to be serious but not life-threatening.  Akins died at the scene.

The eastbound and westbound passing lanes were blocked for the crash investigation.
