The Maconaquah School Corporation in Miami County has become the second school district in The Hoosier State to return to virtual learning, thanks to the spread of COVID-19 among students.

The schools also cancelled all extracurricular activates through August 29th due to concerns about the coronavirus.

On Sunday, Henry County’s Shenandoah School Corporation announced that they’ll be doing remote learning for at least the next two weeks. Their decision was based on a directive from the Henry County Health Department.

Maconaquah says their two elementary schools had absentee rates of more than 30%, with the middle school at nearly half and the high school at nearly 65%.

Contact tracing showed the coronavirus was being spread from student to student almost immediately after classes began on August 2.

Thirteen staff members and seven bus drivers also tested positive for COVID-19.
