The South Shore Line now has enough local money to build a shorter route into South Bend International Airport, and it’s pushing for federal matching funds.
The plan moves the station from the east side of the airport to the west side.
The change would cut travel time and eliminate several road crossings.
The project is expected to cost about $112 million. State leaders, St. Joseph County, the City of South Bend, and private partners like Notre Dame and 1st Source Bank have all committed funding.
