Even if you have been vaccinated against coronavirus, the protection you have against the virus can start to drop within months. That is why President Biden and his administration are working on a plan to recommend people get a booster shot about eight months after being fully vaccinated with either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines.

Jerome Adams, former U.S. Surgeon General, agrees with the President. He says a recent study in Israel shows that booster shots work.

“In that study, it showed that a vaccine was still effective in preventing severe disease, hospitalization, and death. But there was still spread going on. There were breakthrough infections,” said Adams in an interview with WISH-TV.

Adams says they gave more than 1 million people there a third dose.

“They saw significantly increased immunity and antibody levels when the third dose was administered. Really what they’re doing is following the science here. The science says you’re still protected from hospitalization and death, but if we want to stop the spread, then we really need people to get these third booster doses,” said Adams.

Adams was the Indiana Health Commissioner from October 2014-September 2017.
