Domestic dispute ends with chase, shots fired, man dead in Mishawaka

The Mishawaka Police Department is investigating a road rage incident that ended with a crash and a man dead in Mishawaka.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 1, in the area of Mishawaka Avenue and Liberty Drive.

The incident began as a domestic dispute at the Irish Hills Apartment complex in South Bend where a female fled the scene in her car being chased by a male subject in his car.

The male chased the female through the streets of South Bend and Mishawaka, prompting several call to St. Joseph County Dispatch.

The pursuit ended with both vehicles colliding at Mishawaka Avenue and Liberty Drive.

The female fled the scene to find help at the Mishawaka Police Department.

The male was seen running south toward the riverbank where shots were fired as Mishawaka police officers arrived on scene.

A short time later another shot was heard by officers who were at the scene.

The male was found on the riverbank where he died due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
