Evansville man receives 16-year sentence after admitting to inflicting injury on two infants

(Tommie Lee/MNC)

An Evansville man received a 16-year sentence in Elkhart County after admitting to inflicting severe injury on a pair of one-month-old twins.

23-year-old Christopher Voegel won’t spend time behind bars. Instead, it’s home detention and probation after he pleaded guilty to two counts of neglect of a dependent causing serious injury.

Voegel admitted in July that he had endangered the children despite being their caretaker.

The Elkhart Truth reports the mother of the children told the court that the limb fractures and other injuries they suffered have affected their development.

She wasn’t happy with Voegel’s attorney’s reasoning that his client was a young father and under a lot of stress.

She also wasn’t happy that he only had to spend a few weeks in jail after he was arrested.

Absolute travesty of justice!! Drug charges get you more than abusing a child!! Way too much plea bargaining in the system! I hope his PO makes his life miserable!!

This is just wrong
Who was the judge? Publish their names as well as the prosecutors .
They should be removed from the bench

I do not understand how these attorneys can sleep at night knowing their client is GUILTY of hurting two newborn infants. In reading the above statement about the children mother was not happy with the outcome, hell NO none of the family was happy. The judicial system is broke! Tax payers should come forward to get this system in shape.
I did some research and found under Indiana Law CV could have been sentenced up to 20 years on each count. It seems as though the courts protect the perpetrator.
These officials were not there the sleepless nights that my granddaughter was up every two hours feeding and changing diapers. she could not trust anyone to help her. She lost job after job trying to work and support herself and her children due to doctor appointment to meet the twins every need.
With all the hoops she had to jump through not to lose her babies and become the fighter and advocate
she has became a PHENOMENAL MOM!
Stop coddling these sorry ass child abusers.
Stop the plea bargains
Rack up some years.
Sterilize these people.
MOST CHILD ABUSERS will become a repeat offender within a year of being released.

So here is something to think about
A person on home detention can still have a busy social life with their phone, internet, dating sites and possibly produce another child to abuse.
