17 regions representing all 92 counties in Indiana have submitted proposals for funding from the Indiana Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative.

The proposals, which aim to accelerate small-and-large-scale growth, total more than $1 billion dollars in requested funding, statewide, which is double what the budget is actually set at.

Plans from the Northern Indiana Regional Development Authority, which covers St. Joseph, Elkhart and Marshall Counties, include:

  • Building an athletic complex called Mishawaka Fieldhouse,
  • Expanding winter activities and amenities at George Wilson Park in Mishawaka
  • Creating a ten-court tennis bubble adjacent to Goshen College, with pickleball courts and an indoor walking track
  • Redeveloping and expanding Memorial Hospital by more than 200,000 square feet
  • Developing a cross country multi-generational fitness initiative at the Culver Town Park.
