Warsaw Police Captain died unexpectedly on Tuesday

A captain with the Warsaw Police Department has died unexpectedly.

58-year-old Clay Layne had a medical emergency on Oct. 11 was taken to a local hospital before being taken to Fort Wayne Hospital.

On Tuesday morning, Captain Layne passed away in Fort Wayne.

ABC-57 News reports several law enforcement officers escorted the captain from Fort Wayne to a Warsaw funeral home.

Captain Layne started working for Warsaw Police Department on May 6, 1995. He was promoted to captain in 2020. Layne’s service included serving as a squad leader for eight years in the Indiana Army National Guard. In addition to serving as a member of the Warsaw Dive Team and commander of the Warsaw Emergency Response Team.
