14-year-old boy in custody in connection with teenager’s death in Benton Harbor

A 14-year-old boy has been taken into custody in connection to the death investigation surrounding a 17-year-old boy who was found dead last weekend in Benton Harbor.

Officers found the victim’s body around 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 16, in an alley in the 100 block of Parker Street.

His death was deemed suspicious, but authorities have not said how the teen died.

On Saturday October 16, 2021 at 0845 Hours, Officers of BHDPS responded to the 100 Block of Parker Street for a welfare check of a person laying in the alley. Upon arrival officers discovered at 17-year-old Benton Harbor male deceased by suspicious means.

Officers processed the scene with the assistance of the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department. The deceased male was taken to WMED in Kalamazoo for an autopsy and cause of death determination. BHDPS will not be releasing the victim’s name at the family request.
