Recent accusations of bullying at a Smith-Green middle school in Churubusco have prompted Indiana State Police to look into the matter.

At a school board meeting on Monday, a woman spoke up during the public comment portion of the meeting where she claimed that a student that she knows well, was the target of bullying in a middle school locker room.

“I want to say how thankful and proud I am of the student and parent who was brave enough to speak up and come forward and tell what was happening in the middle school boys’ football locker rooms,” the woman said. “Kids were being peed on, peed in their shoes, putting their private parts on people, rubbing them and touching them. It’s just unacceptable!”

The discussion from concerned parents in attendance lasted about 30 minutes on the bullying accusations. Some were not happy with how the situation was handled by the school administration. The woman said that the students who were doing the bullying were only given two days suspension.

A few days after the meeting, Smith-Green Superintendent Dan Hile released a video on YouTube to address the matter.

“I know there are also a lot of questions about a situation that is currently being investigated,” Hile said. In addition to the investigation and steps being taken by our school administration, our staff also immediately requested the assistance of the Indiana State Police due to the nature of the allegations.”

Hile also reminded parents and students alike that the school has an anonymous tip line for reporting bullying.
