As many as 50 propane tanks have been stolen from South Bend gas stations over the last few weeks.

Surveillance video released from the Phillips 66 gas station on Sample Street show two men placing the tank in a red pickup truck. This time they stole 26 tanks.

Another Marathon gas station reported 21 tanks stolen. Police have a few theories behind the thefts.

One is that the culprits are stealing the tanks for propane — with the price of propane going up.

They also say they could be selling the tanks themselves for scrap.
