An Elkhart man accused of trying to kill his father has been found incompetent to stand trial.

Dominique Edwards, 27, is charged with attempted murder and resisting law enforcement, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth.

Police say he shot his father, Anthony Shaw, in his home last November.

Shaw was shot while he was in bed at his Stevens Avenue home, causing serious injuries to his leg and abdomen.

Family members said Edwards was behaving strangely at the time and believed he may have been on drugs.

Edwards will be committed to the state hospital until the hospital determines he is competent to stand trial or finds that his competency can’t be established.
