Woman who was struck and killed on 9-33 has now been identified

The woman who was struck and killed while trying to cross State Road 9-33, on Saturday night, Nov. 13, has now been identified.

Police in South Bend were called to the road near St. Mary’s where they found 69-year-old Winifred Hale, dead at the scene.

According to police, she was not using the crosswalk. They also say the driver, a 79-year-old man from Granger had the right-of-way.

The driver did cooperate with police. Impairment did not appear to be a factor in the accident.
