Old Spice, Secret deodorant recalls announced

Procter & Gamble is recalling certain aerosol spray cans of Secret and Old Spice antiperspirants because they contain benzene, a chemical known to cause cancer.

The FDA says daily exposure to the benzene in the recalled products at the levels detected in their testing “would not be expected to cause adverse health consequences”. Exposure to benzene can result in cancers including leukemia and blood cancer of the bone and marrow, as well as blood disorders.

Procter & Gamble says it has not received any reports of health issues related to the antiperspirants but is issuing the recall “out of an abundance of caution”.

The recalled products have expiration dates through September 2023 and include:

All other Old Spice and Secret products are safe to use and can continue to be used, says the FDA.

Procter & Gamble is working to have the recalled items removed from store shelves.

If you have the recalled products, you should stop using them and throw them away.
