Starting this week, the week of Nov. 29, the Elkhart Police Department has a new Parking Enforcement Officer.

The officer will be based primarily in the downtown area enforcing the parking ordinances.

Due to staffing needs, there has not been a parking enforcement officer downtown since June 2020.

The officer will issue warnings for the first 30 days as people in the community re-adjust to having a parking enforcement officer downtown.

After 30 days, she will be issue citations for parking ordinance violations and enforce ordinances to ensure that more people are able to park and partake of the downtown amenities and businesses.
