Valparaiso man drove SUV into Lake Michigan on Saturday

A man drove his SUV through Indiana Dunes State Park and into Lake Michigan, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

Police and first responders were called Saturday afternoon about a man acting strangely by the west side of the beach pavilion, reports The Times of Northwest Indiana.

They then found an unoccupied SUV about 150 feet into the lake.

The 32-year-old Valparaiso man who was inside the SUV had gotten out of the vehicle before police and first responders arrived.

The man was found and taken to a hospital for evaluation. His SUV was towed from the lake.

Investigators believe the man drove through a closed parking lot at Indiana Dunes State Park, drove over the beach, and into the lake, according to The NWI Times. Drugs and alcohol were not factors in the incident.

Investigators are still looking into what happened.
