Plan approved for Dollar General near Fairfield HS

Elkhart County Commissioners have given the go-ahead to a plan that would build a Dollar General store near Fairfield High School.

The commission cited land-use rights as they approved the developer’s plan to build the store and a self-storage facility on a piece of land set aside for business use more than 20 years ago. The Goshen News reports the vote was unanimous to allow Windshire Corporation to construct the buildings along US 31 at CR 31.

Some residents and the Fairfield School Board objected to the development, citing the safety of students who might cross the busy highway to visit the store among their concerns.
