A driver who allegedly struck a South Bend Police officer with his vehicle earlier this year has been arrested.

It happened back in mid-September when an other was called to the area of Western Avenue and Olive Street and found a driver, identified as Kevin Darnell Reed Jr., unresponsive in a vehicle.

The officer had to reach into the vehicle to unlock the door to try to get Reed to respond.

Once Reed awoke, the officer asked for his ID and Reed began to drive off, hitting the officer in torso, knocking him to the ground.

The car also ran over the officer’s knee.

ABC 57 News reports charges were filed against Reed in September. He was arrested last Thursday.
