South Bend woman inside home on 29th Street struck by stray bullet

A woman inside her own home was struck by a stray bullet.

It happened around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 1.

South Bend Police Department officers were called to the home in the 300 block of 29th Street on the report of the shooting.

The incident took place at a time when multiple cases of “celebratory gunfire” were being reported across the city, according to South Bend Police.

The victim’s injuries were not life-threatening.

Police are reminding residents that it is illegal to recklessly discharge a weapon within city limits and could result in a $2,500 fine.
