Winamac man sentenced after pleading guilty to child pornography charges

Terry Cottrell, 38, of Winamac, was sentenced in United States District Court after pleading guilty to possession of child pornography.

Cottrell was sentenced to 97 months in prison followed by 10 years of supervised release.  He was also ordered to pay $39,000 in restitution.

According to documents in the case, in October of 2019, law enforcement discovered over 9,000 images and seven videos of child pornography on Cottrell’s cell phone and laptop computer. Cottrell confessed to possessing the images. Cottrell’s criminal history includes a conviction for breaking into a library in 2003 to look up child pornography on a library computer.

This case was investigated by Homeland Security Investigations with the assistance of the Indiana State Police.
