Indiana State Troopers recovered a stolen Jeep on Thursday afternoon, after a lengthy car chase.
At 4:15 p.m., troopers patrolling Michigan City caught sight of a black Jeep Grand Cherokee with Illinois plates.
A check of the license plate attached to the Jeep returned to a different vehicle. When troopers tried closing in on the Jeep, the driver suddenly sped off.
The chase continued south on Franklin St. before entering I-94 westbound. The driver then exited I-94 and drove southbound on SR 49 to I-90.
While the driver was trying to enter I-90, the Jeep hit “stop sticks” that were placed in the roadway. Still, the driver continued to speed westbound on I-90, driving on a flat tire.
Eventually, the driver stopped at the 27 mile-marker, where he and a male passenger were taken into custody. An investigation later revealed the Jeep was reported stolen in Plainfield, Illinois via a Facebook sales scam.
The passenger was released and not charged. The driver, 23-year-old Keyvon Johnson, was taken to the LaPorte County Jail. He’s been charged with Resisting Law Enforcement, Theft, Reckless Driving and Possession of Marijuana.
