Empty lot near Trader Joe’s could become an apartment complex

An empty lot near Notre Dame could be developed into an apartment complex.

A plan for the lot at Corby Blvd. and State Road 23 has cleared the first of two hurdles, passing out of the Plan Commission with a recommendation for rezoning. Now the South Bend Common Council will have to decide if the empty lot could be developed into a 4-story building with 103 apartments, along with commercial space.

It sits across the street from Trader Joe’s, just a block away from the campus. The Council meets today and is expected to vote on the rezoning.
