In response to a rise in violence cases, officials in Michigan City have declared a public health crisis against the problem.
The President of the Michigan City Common Council says in the past few years she has seen gun violence spike in the city, both in terms of homicides and suicides.
WSBT reports that she is urging the council to take action now. Last week the council voted to create a gun violence committee, made up of council members including former Police Chief Gene Simmons, to address strategies to fight the problem.
There has been an uptick in gun shot calls in the past year in Michigan City, as well. The committee will look for ways to provide more resources to the police.

You Dems and your programs and “committees”. Just stop. You aren’t talking gang members out of their guns and why try? When you stop the movement of bad people from Chicago and South Bend to our areas and you allow cops to do their jobs on their their terms this will stop.
Wait till the double tracking is done. You’ll see crime on a level in this area like you have never seen.
Guns are inanimate tools. A gun needs a human to animate it. No gun has ever stood trial for a crime. Until leaders in Michigan City decide to treat criminals with the severity they deserve there will continue to be violent actors.
They must be smelling GOVERNMENT money in the air for communities that do this!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This uptick in crime is caused by the lenient policies of Democrat politicians. How many prisoners were released due to COVID? How many of them have been released by Democrat district attorneys with low or no bail in the name of “social justice”? How many of those increased suicides were because of needless COVID lockdowns or economic desperation, also caused by the Democrats?
Want to fix your problems? Don’t abolish guns, abolish Democrats.
