One of the bills that passed the House this week and will be reviewed by the Senate is one that aims to help keep young kids out of detention centers.

This bill would allow for young offenders to get counseling for mental health and behavioral issues rather than being incarcerated or placed in detention.

The Indiana Youth Institute says 7 in 10 kids under the age of 18 have some kind of mental illness.

My concern. Protecting the victim of violence. Say you are a high school student. You are bullied and viciously beaten by two students in school. You are badly injured. DO you want to go back to school knowing that your attackers will be passing you in the hall ? You MUST protect folks from the mean, evil acts of others no matter what their age.

This “soft on crime” BS has got to stop. Tolerance toward criminals just means there will be more crime and more criminals. What message are we sending here? “Don’t do bad things or we will make you talk to someone?” Give me a break.

Also, the 7 in 10 kids with mental illness statistic is bollocks. Kids are the same as they ever were, but now everything is classified as a mental illness, much like carcinogens in California.

I wish I had a PhD in social sciences so I could comprehend how this will end well.
