Long term care facilities hit hard by “great resignation”

elderly care

New statistics say nursing homes and long care facilities have lost more than a quarter of a million caregivers since July of 2019.

In fact, the entire long term care industry is facing a 15-year labor low, according to the American Health Care Association, and the National Center for Assisted Living.

Their new report summarizes data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and shows new numbers for January that illustrate the challenge. Hospitals have lost 2% of their workforce, compared to a 15% workforce decline at nursing homes and 7% at assisted living communities.

An upcoming U.S. Senate hearing will give the industry the chance to seek more support for those who support our nation’s seniors.
