Search resumes Wednesday morning for missing Indianapolis man who fell into Lake Michigan

The search for an Indianapolis man who fell through the ice on Lake Michigan resumed Wednesday morning.

Indiana Department of Natural Resources say around 5:30 p.m. CST five people, all believed to be in their 20’s, went on the Lake Michigan ice shelf, about 10-feet off the shore.

That’s when a piece of ice broke off and the man tripped, falling into the lake.

According to The Times of Northwest Indiana, the four other people who walked out onto the ice tried to rescue the man, but were unsuccessful.

A massive search party attempted to rescue the man, including members of the Coast Guard, dive teams and firefighters.  A helicopter from Lake County combed the shores and waters along West Beach in the Indiana Dunes National Park.

After nearly two-hours, officials suspended the search around 7:30 p.m. CST Monday night after being hindered by high winds and ice.

The search resumed at dawn on Wednesday for the missing man.
