The South Bend Washington Panthers Girls Basketball Team made history over the weekend as they won the 3A State Title.
Their 58-point margin of victory was the biggest in the history of the tournament, Washington’s 93 points set a state record, and Head Coach Steve Reynolds became the first black South Bend Coach to win a state title in any sport, according to The South Bend Tribune.
Their opponent, the Silver Creek Dragons, were the same program that beat them for the title last year.
The Panthers are ranked 22nd in the latest ESPN poll and won their first state championship since Notre Dame and WNBA star Skylar Diggins led the green and white to the title in 2007.
The champs were welcomed home by their fans Sunday afternoon.
