Fire, Hazmat crews responded to an Elkhart automotive repair shop fire

Fire and Hazmat crews were called to an automotive repair shop in Elkhart that caught fire..

The blaze broke out around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, at the shop in the 1200 block of West Lusher Avenue.

On arrival, crews reported heavy smoke coming from the front side of the structure.

Additional crews were called to help and it took about an hour to bring the fire under control.

Crew members noticed run-off water containing automotive fluids, so the Hazmat Team, Public Works, Street Department and Department of Environmental Management were contacted to help mitigate the situation.

There were no injuries.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
