The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office is looking into the reported theft of money from the County Trustee’s bank account.

The Elkhart County Auditor reported phone calls and emails sent to her office, last week, requesting to switch bank accounts for the Trustee between Feb. 15 and March 15.

Those calls were not from the Trustee but an employee changed the banking routing numbers, according to 95.3 MNC’s reporting partners at ABC 57.

A check for more than $14,800 dollars was direct deposited into the fake account.
