Elkhart ArtWalk growing, moving to 3rd Thursdays in April-October

The Elkhart ArtWalk is back this year, and promises plenty of free events thanks to new partnerships in the community.

Ashley Molyneaux from Premier Arts tells 953 MNC you’ll notice the changes when the first event kicks off the season on Thursday April 28, making the move from Wednesdays.

The 2022 season of ArtWalk in downtown Elkhart will be powered and managed by Premier Arts, have new themes and a new concept on Civic Plaza. New this year is that ArtWalk will take place the last Thursday of every month starting in April and going through October unlike Wednesdays in the past.

New highlights include:

Dance the night away with That’s Dancing with live lessons and demos every month.

Friends of The Lerner Theatre, will unveil a new concert series called “Lerner on the Lawn” held on the newly renovated Central Green Stage at Civic Plaza

Pop into the Elkhart Public Library to see student artwork featured and participate in a craft every month

Family art projects, hosted by Art Depot, will take place each month in Central Park

“An important part of the Premier Arts mission is to inspire the imagination and develop the creative spirit of our community. Our re-imagination of Art Walk is a perfect complement to the wide array of our arts-focused programming throughout the year. We seek to involve diverse art forms and audiences like never before. Families are a new priority for Art Walk this year with many new activities that are meant to draw all ages to our beautiful downtown. More details will come out closer to each event as new and fun activities are added to this already exciting monthly event. The FREE event is held the last Thursday of each month from 5 to 8 p.m. until October, where downtown Elkhart comes alive with art, music, dancing, shopping and fun during Elkhart ArtWalk. Local merchants will also have shopping specials and surprises. Guests are encouraged to scan the QR codes throughout downtown Elkhart for event and merchant highlights.

The Lerner on The Lawn series presented by Friends of The Lerner and the Rex & Alice A. Martin Foundation will kick off in May with a live outdoor music concert series. The FREE concerts will be held on The Central Green of Civic Plaza starting at 6 p.m. No ticket required. Bring a lawn chair or a blanket and enjoy the evening under the stars.

“The Lerner Theatre and Friends of The Lerner is pleased to add a new live music element to ArtWalk on the Central Green stage. “Lerner on the Lawn” will showcase regional and national artists, free to the community, from 6- 8 p.m.during ArtWalk Thursdays from May to October. Local food trucks and some of your favorite Downtown vendors will be set up at Central Green. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets for a great night of art and music in Downtown,” said Michelle Frank, The Lerner Theatre, Executive Director.
