The LaPorte County Auditor is facing heat after an error in property tax bills showed taxpayers being overcharged by as much as $50,000.

The tax bills are off by around $30 and they’re due on Tuesday, May 10.

Auditor Tim Stabosz is telling residents to pay them and the credit will be applied to the fall tax bill.

WSBT reports two of the three LaPorte County Commissioners want him ousted.

Stabosz insists it’s not entirely his mistake, as his office received bad guidance from a former tax chief and that the error went unnoticed by multiple people before the bills went out.
