Michigan DNR has advice if turkeys are getting aggressive in your neighborhood

The Michigan DNR is recommending that residents deal with turkey troubles on their property with “turkey hazing”.

It’s the time of year when wild turkeys become more active, with males getting more and more aggressive as they attempt to attract a mate. The birds are looking to mark territory, and can harass or even chase people in neighborhoods.

There haven’t been any attacks reported in the Michiana area yet this season, but there’s a way to fight back. The DNR says turkey hazing involves letting the birds know you’re loud and noisy and obnoxious. You wave your hands and clap at them, then you yell and walk up towards them. This kind of behavior will likely keep turkeys from staying in your yard.
