There’s good news for local sports fans.
South Bend Cubs First Baseman Matt Mervis has been named the Midwest League Player of the Week, after putting up huge numbers in a 12 game-homestand. Mervis has hit .415 during an 11-1 run of wins for the Cubs against Peoria and Fort Wayne.
It’s also the second time this month that a South Bend player has won the honor, after Alexander Canario was given the title on May 2nd.
