Idaho man killed in motorcycle crash on U.S. 20 in LaPorte County

A 24-year-old man from Idaho died after the motorcycle he was operating crashed into an SUV.

The collision happened around 4:20 p.m. on Thursday, May 19, on U.S. 20, near Michigan Street.

The LaPorte County Sheriff’s Office says the SUV was stopped in the passing lane, waiting to turn, when the vehicle was hit from behind by 24-year-old Erik Smith of Post Fall, Idaho, who was operating the motorcycle.

Smith died at the scene.

The driver of the SUV refused medical treatment.
