Governor Eric Holcomb has selected Court of Appeals Judge Derek Molter as the next member of the Indiana Supreme Court.

Molter is replacing retiring Supreme Court Justice Steven David.

“Justice David has served, not just our state, but also our nation in the Army with constant commitment and distinction. You sir are leaving a long-lasting legacy and you will be greatly missed,” said Holcomb at a news conference Friday to David before announcing Molter as his next pick.

Holcomb said Molter is humble, caring, and collaborative.

“Those are three traits that I think will not only serve his career but also our state well. Molter is devoted to the cause of justice and maintaining the integrity of our justice system. He’s proven during his lengthy legal career and his tenure on the Indiana Court of Appeals his dedication to the critical role the judiciary plays in our system of government and the future of our state,” said Holcomb.

Molter was appointed to the Court of Appeals by Holcomb and began his service on October 1, 2021. Before joining the Court of Appeals, he was a partner at Ice Miller in Indianapolis. Before that, he was an attorney in Washington D.C. at Arnold & Porter LLP.

“He has a profound respect for our State Constitution and the rule of law. He is absolutely devoted to the cause of justice,” said Holcomb.

Molter has the endorsement of Chief Justice Loretta Rush.

“Derek Molter is a thoughtful and even-tempered judge. From Newton County farming roots to pro bono work to Washington D.C. law firm experience, Derek brings a unique skill set that will be a lasting credit to the Indiana Supreme Court. It is a pleasure to welcome soon-to-be Justice Derek Molter,” said Rush.

A date for Molter’s robing ceremony will be determined by the Indiana Supreme Court.

RINOS appoint RINOS. Film at 11.

I hope I am wrong about this judge, I have no evidence for him specifically, but Holcomb is a known quantity.
