The January 6th Select Committee held their first prime-time hearing Thursday evening to investigate the US Capitol attack in 2021. The panel played new video from depositions of members of former President Trump’s team.

Indiana Congressman Jim Banks told 93 WIBC’s Tony Katz that Thursday night’s hearing was nothing but an attack on former President Trump.

“There was nothing that came out last night that would change anybody’s mind. This illegitimate committee is trying to prosecute Donald Trump for crimes that he didn’t commit…The bottom line in all this is that you can’t have a legitimate trial, a legitimate committee hearing, when you don’t have a different point of view.”

Banks was originally supposed to be on the committee until Pelosi rejected both he and fellow Republican Party member Rep. Jim Jordan due to ‘integrity’ concerns. He said if he were to have been in the room he would’ve addressed the serious questions at hand such as why the Capitol wasn’t secure on January 6th to begin with.

“The head of the Capitol Police Union told me that they weren’t prepared for what happened on January 6th because the intelligence never got to rank and file capitol police officers. They weren’t equipped for it. They had faulty, outdated equipment. Some of the officers didn’t even have helmets. Then you ask yourself, ‘who has oversight of the capitol police and capitol security?’ The breadcrumbs all lead to (House Speaker) Nancy Pelosi’s office,” said Banks.

Banks believe Pelosi is part of a cover up.

“She’s covered up documents in her office about why the National Guard was not called on that day because of ‘bad optics’ and she refused to give those documents to the bipartisan Senate Homeland Security Committee that investigated January 6th,” said Banks.

Banks said these hearings are all about trying to put former President Donald Trump in jail.

Stop calling J6 an “attack” or an “insurrection”. It was a legitimate protest of people who were LET IN to the capitol building by the police. There were antifa plants in the crowd who tried to vandalize, but other attendees reigned them in.

The only “attack” or “insurrections” were the billions of dollars in damage from the BLM/antifa riots in 2020, or maybe when they stormed the Senate Rotunda over Kavanaugh.

Using the words of the left just gives power to their lies.

Also stop saying it was an attack on “our democracy.” This country is a REPUBLIC> The Constitution guarantees to each state a REPUBLICAN form of government. The closest we come to a democracy is on election day when everyone is exactly equal in their voting opportunity, well except when massive cheating goes on. When the dems make such statements about democracy they are really saying it was an attack on their ability to tyrannize the rest of us.
