Extra training ahead of the July 4th weekend proved to be useful for Michigan City firefighters, Washington Park lifeguards, and LaPorte County Emergency Medical Service members who were busy with multiple water rescues.

Washington Park lifeguards rescued four victims on Saturday and three more on Sunday, according to a post on the Michigan City Fire Department Facebook page.

In one instance on Sunday, Michigan City firefighters got a call about three victims.

On arrival, they found one of the victims out of the water and being cared for by LaPorte County paramedics.

Crews entered the water and found a second person at the bottom of the lake. Crews began life saving measures and transferred the patient to LaPorte County E.M.S.

Firefighters and dive team members searched for an hour but determined the wasn’t a third victim.
