Storms with strong winds and torrential rain that swept through northern Indiana and southwest Michigan on Tuesday night caused heavy damage and disrupted power to thousands of Indiana Michigan Power customers.

As of 7 a.m. on Wednesday, July 6, more than 16,000 I&M customers were without
service, most in the Fort Wayne area.

More severe weather is expected this morning and possibly later today.

I&M crews are addressing downed wires, assessing damage and restoring power as weather conditions safely permit.

Approximate outage numbers and restoration times:

  • Fort Wayne Area 11,800 11 p.m. Thursday, July 7
  • South Bend/Elkhart Area 950 11 p.m. tonight
  • Southwest Michigan 1,470 11 p.m. tonight

These estimated restoration times are when crews expect 90% of the specific area to be
restored. Keep in mind, most customers will have power restored before the estimated time.

I&M will provide regular updates with outage information and restoration estimates as crews continue to work. We understand a power outage is inconvenient for our customers and communities, and we appreciate their patience as crews work safely to restore power.
