Some bickering between residents and city leaders in LaPorte over what to do about traffic congestion on downtown streets.
The city is looking into proposals for a bypass corridor to be built around the city’s downtown area in order to funnel semi-truck traffic around the city so that they don’t clog up streets downtown.
However, homeowners in the areas were proposed corridor projects would go are pushing back, saying they don’t what the project to interfere with their land.
Mayor Tom Dermody says the latest proposal won’t interfere at all in such a way and says the corridor is a necessity for public safety concerns.

Mayor Tom Dermody doesn’t know what he’s talking about. In a TV interview he clearly stated no residents houses are being impacted where the contractors proposal puts the bypass right through my house for the south side portion which I was told would be built first.
Mayor Tom Dermody needs to utilize the iPads routes that already exist (Boston St., Boyd Blvd, Cevers Rd) as these routes (possible exception being Cevers Rd) were designed for routing truck traffic. Oddly enough the city hasn’t event tried this solution. They would rather spend millions leaving the County holding the bag for maintaining the bypass in the future which would in turn raise property taxes for everyone in La Porte County.
