South Bend Common Councilman Henry Davis, Jr., met with other council members and residents to discuss their disappointment with the Sterling Group, which manages Heritage Place at Lasalle Square.
There is only one elevator in Heritage Place which must be shared amongst over 70 senior residents. However, the single elevator has been out of service for two months as well as out of compliance per state and city code.
Councilman Davis, Jr., expressed displeasure, emphasizing his concerns for the residents’ mobility and mentioning the risk of a tragedy.
Davis stated that he has been working with the County Building Department as well as the South Bend Fire Department to get answers, but says that the elevator currently remains out of order.

I’m in a senior high rise,since January of this year,I’ve been constantly getting stuck in this elevator,and it seems no one is concern’ I have documents and police report,this thing has caused me PTSD I had anxiety attacks when I moved here,this has pushed me to the edge,I’ve called this that and the other and still can’t get anserws to a government ran building with disfunctional elevators::
