Demolition for the Tolson Center for Community Excellence has begun in Elkhart.

This, after Tolson transferred management in April, to make the community center an independent nonprofit organization.

They’re making a new building in the same space, with indoor gyms, an art space, a dance room, and more.

The new facility is set to be fully open in fall 2023.

They’re located at 1320 Benham Avenue.

The Elkhart Truth reports that construction will cost about $12 million.

They’re raising the money from donations.

Those interested in donating can visit tolson.org/donate/.

Donations? I seem to recall that Elkhart City was footing a lot of the bill with tax dollars, despite having no say in how the money is being spent…
