Some places in Indiana got at least five inches of rain this past weekend, according to the National Weather Service. That led to some flash flood warnings being issued and eased some of the drought-like conditions.

“For those who got rain, be glad you got it because we do go back into a drier pattern. Wednesday is going to be a hot day. We’re thinking it will be in maybe the low-to-mid 90s. Friday through Sunday will be hot days with most places being between 92 to 96 degrees,” said Alex McGinnis, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Indianapolis.

There will be heat index values that will be hovering around 100, especially in the southern and western counties of Indiana.

“It’s definitely a summer-time-like pattern. Most days will have temperatures in the upper 80s to the mid-90s. Hopefully some places will get some rain,” said McGinnis.

The recent rain has helped. At one point last week, nearly the entire state was considered “abnormally dry” by the U.S. Drought Monitor. Now that number has fallen to 79%. Almost 44% of the state is still under “moderate drought.”

Wednesday appears to be the day with the best chance of rain so far this week, but McGinnis says that can always change.
